When Lobke Meulemeester lost her mother, her life turned upside down. She felt lost and depressed—scared of what lay ahead. To cope with the grieving, the 34-year-old Brit turned to food. "I forgot about the exercise. I just went to work every day and came straight home," she told The Sun. "Because I was getting bigger I was getting lazier every day. I got stuck in a rut."
Meulemeester had battled with her size since she was a child—losing some weight here and thereby trying different diets and then packing it back on once she'd return to her normal eating habits. "Eating made me unhappy, but the only thing that made me happy was eating," she said.
Eventually, her weight began to take a toll on her health, causing breathing problems and turning her into a borderline diabetic. "I couldn't tie up my shoelaces without holding my stomach as I couldn't bend down properly," she said. Soon enough, she knew something had to change.
